Introduce Composition Prompt
Lesson Plan
- expected triads in minor
- Inversions continued; review from figured bass
- spell all inversions of a single chord
- show that a 1st-inversion triad has a 6th and 3rd above bass, so we show with 6/3
- 2nd inversion 6/4
- Spelling chords in inversion
- given figured bass: write intervals then analyze
- chord and inversion (e.g. pop-chord symbol): spell 1st in rt position, then re-spell in requested inversion
- Figured Bass cont.
- intervals are diatonic unless shown in the figures
- most common alteration is to raise a note, so lots of ways to show that (#5, /5, etc.)
- most common alteration is to the 3rd of a chord, so a lonely accidental implies the 3rd of a chord
- Wait to Show Chart on Monday
- Try it #5 - Good Fig Bass example
Review/continue as needed
- analyze real music--with pop-chord symbols, figured bass, and RNs
- write from figured bass (with alterations! :-))
- Try-Its and workbook
- Triads quiz
- Pass out composition project prompt
